About Me
I am a Registered Veterinary Technician and have been in the veterinary field since 2008. Behavior has always been my passion. I am Fear Free Certified (Level 3 Elite in Veterinary, Shelters, Grooming, and Equine), a Certified Pet Nutrition Coach, Human Animal Bond Certified, and am always looking for ways to expand my knowledge to help my clients’ pets. My passion is working with general practitioners and their clients as a “case manager” for veterinarians’ behavior cases. They assess, diagnose, and prescribe. I handle the client education, including environmental management, enrichment, behavior modification, and (with permission from their DVM) coach the implementation of their prescribed products.
How It works
- You diagnose a behavior problem, or have a client that wants to get a proactive approach and avoid problems.
- You send me a referral letter.
- I meet with your client and their pet.
- We discuss behavior therapy.
- A full report outlining our tentative plan is sent to both you and the client.
- You prescribe and manage medications as needed. (If medication appears to need adjusting, I will consult you before making any specific recommendations.)
Aspects of Behavior Therapy
Behavior Therapy consists of training for both the pet and the pet owner. This training starts with providing an understanding of normal behaviors and body language. From there, we make sure the environmental and biological needs of the pet are being met. I will then implement management strategies to correct and prevent the manifestation of unwanted behaviors. Working with the pet owner, I will teach alternate behaviors, appropriate coping strategies, and work to change the perception of triggers. I will rely on you during this process to manage medications to treat chemical imbalances in the brain.
